Loyola University Chicago invites applications for its PhD program in New Testament/Early Christianity.

Please continue reading for further information.

The PhD program of New Testament and Early Christianity specialization concentrates on the New Testament and related texts in their historical, cultural, and religious contexts, including the diversity of ancient Judaism within a larger ancient Mediterranean world. The interpretation of these texts involves training in a variety of interpretive methods and ancient languages—special faculty interests include narrative, gender, and apocalypticism, as well as Greek and Hebrew. Doctoral students in New Testament/Early Christianity also take at least one course in theology and one in ethics. Our students regularly present papers at regional and national conferences; they also host research conferences at Loyola. In addition, the New Testament/Early Christianity program convenes a bi-monthly colloquium for research in progress, providing a forum for doctoral students to share their research and build connections with visiting faculty presenters.

Pedagogy is woven into the training and practice of our doctoral program. Each student takes two semesters of Theological Pedagogies during doctoral coursework. Students continue to develop expertise as teachers and colleagues through departmental pedagogy workshops. Students receiving financial assistance from Loyola University Chicago for their doctoral studies typically plan and teach their own courses as “Teacher of Record” in their fourth and/or fifth years of study.

Admission to this program includes a 5-year stipend; stipends begin at $18,000 in the first year and then increase $500 per year. Application deadline is January 15; further details are available on our website. For more information, contact Professor Christopher Skinner (Questo indirizzo email è protetto dagli spambots.
